The Juiciest Summer Ever
Now this is a peculiar mission. We picked 68 juices and smoothies all promising to make us feel wonderful, and set the team a challenge to find the tastiest, most effective, nutrient-pumped drinks.
Why? Nutrition experts say drinking DIY juices is one of the easiest steps you can take to improve your health. You’ll naturally become more mindful of what’s going into your body, and this then filters through to food too. Here are the juices to end all juices.
The ‘Incredible Skin’ Juice
Perfect for gorgeous summer skin - Celery is high in Vitamin K, which works really hard to keep your skin firm while the A, B and C Vitamins give it a lustrous tone. Matcha is full of antioxidants to flush out toxins too.
Ingredients: A handful of spinach, 2 sticks of asparagus, 1 piece of celery, zest of 1 lime, juice of 1 orange, 2 tsp of matcha green tea powder
The ‘Feel Good’ Juice
The best way to start every day - this delicious smoothie is chock-full of tryptophan (in the banana and maca powder), which helps release Serotonin to make you feel marvellous.
Ingredients: 1 banana, 10 raspberries, ½ cucumber, a handful of pumpkin seeds, 1 tsp maca powder, 1 cup ices cubes and ½ cup of water.
The ‘Beach Bod’ Juice
Brilliant for keeping you fuller for longer – chia seeds are packed with fiber and protein which help you feel full. Plus the avocado contains potassium and healthy fats which act as slow releasing energy.
Ingredients: ½ grapefruit, 10 blueberries, 1 tbsp chia seeds, ½ avocado and 1 glass of unsweetened almond milk
The ‘Recovery’ Juice
The morning after the night before, try this juice with a poached egg on toasted walnut bread. The benefits will last much longer than a bacon sandwich. The turmeric aids digestion, reduces inflammation, soothes an upset stomach and fortifies the liver.
Ingredients: 2 carrots, 1 celery stick, 1 apple, the zest of 1 lemon and 1tsp of ground turmeric
The ‘3pm Crash’ Juice
An energising pick-me-up that’s not too sweet – The NHS says if you only make one change to your diet, add blueberries. They’re pumped with nutrients to improve skin, heart health, brain function and they also reduce muscle damage after you hit the gym. Plus the cinnamon helps regulate you blood sugar level so you’re less likely to eat cake!
Ingredients: 1 slice of watermelon, 1 apple, 10 blueberries, zest of 1 lemon, 1 tsp cinnamon
