Jojoba Oil - Uses, Benefits and Recommended Jojoba Skincare Products

A soothing wonder for dry skin… A miracle moisturizer for damaged hair… Jojoba oil is an all-round powerhouse when it comes to natural ingredients.
We've got a bit of a THING for jojoba here at NEOM - we've blended it into loads of our products, so we wanted to throw a bit of light on this natural hero, oh and tell you why we heart it so much.

So, let’s dive into the wonderful world of jojoba! 🌿🙏

What is Jojoba Oil?

Jojoba is, in those techie terms, a liquid ester wax, but it's mostly known as an oil. This subtle difference is one of the reasons why jojoba is so powerful (as you’ll discover if you read on!)

The liquid wax comes from the seed of the jojoba plant, native to North America.

It creates a beautiful gold liquid at room temperature (hence why most refer to it as an oil).

So, what is an ester wax and why is it important when it comes to the wonderful jojoba oil?

Well, here’s why.

The magic of jojoba comes from the fact the ester wax produced from the jojoba seed is very similar to our skin’s natural sebum. Who knew we shared so much with the humble jojoba plant!

Instead of just sitting on the skin’s surface, our bodies will welcome the jojoba ester wax with open arms and readily absorb it deep into our skin. Jojoba is able to nourish deep within – making it such a wonderful ingredient to use in any skincare product.

Jojoba isn’t an essential oil itself, but boy does it love partnering itself with essential oils. It makes a truly brilliant, nourishing base in lots of our products, to help deliver our complex blend of essential oils in a way that not only works on the mind, but the skin too. This means you benefit from the power of the essential oils, but also benefit from carrier oils like jojoba that leave your skin feeling tip top.

7 Unrivalled Benefits of Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is seriously versatile in its brilliant benefits. From all those skin and hair benefits, to super exciting research currently being carried out, jojoba is without question a fantastic natural ingredient - which is great in face, lip, body and hair products.

Here’s a few benefits and reasons why we love this ingredient so much.

– Super Nourishing and Moisturising

Jojoba oil is super nourishing and moisturising for skin and hair. The ester wax creates a moisturising protective barrier, helping combat dry skin, eczema, acne and other skin conditions.

For so many reasons, our skin can often be diminished and lack natural oils, so adding jojoba to your skin helps add natural ester waxes that in turn help protect your skin. As jojoba oil moisturises deep into the skin, something that not all ingredients do, it leaves your skin feeling refreshed and nourished for longer. It feeds your skin with the naturally good stuff to keep it looking refreshed, energised and healthy.

- Natural Vitamins

Jojoba oil is packed full of natural vitamins including:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E

To top things off, it also includes natural omega 6 & 9.

- Antibacterial

As well as all the deep moisturising joy to be had from jojoba, it is also a fantastic antibacterial ingredient. Think of it like the natural oils on your skin, fighting against everyday gems and dirt.

Jojoba simply gives your skin an extra helping hand to fight off unwanted bacteria.

- Better Absorption

Due to the makeup of jojoba oil, it is more readily absorbed than some other ingredients. Another reason to celebrate the powers of natural ingredients!

This improved absorption is a key reason why it can complement essential oils so well.

- Doesn't Clog Pores

Many skincare products can actually exacerbate issues for the skin such as clogging pores or impacting natural oil production. Due to properties of the jojoba oil (non-comedogenic) and how it is readily absorbed, it doesn’t sit on the skin so does not clog pores.

This is particularly useful for oily skin as it balances the skin’s natural oils.

- Soothing & Calming

Jojoba oil goes beyond just moisturising – it is truly soothing.

This makes is really beneficial for any sort of dry skin problems. This soothing nature will give your skin the care it needs to recover and rejuvenate.

- All Skin Types

Jojoba oil can benefit all ages and all skin types.

It doesn’t matter whether you have oily or dry skin - jojoba really is the go-to natural ingredient that is GOOD for EVERYONE, there are unrivalled benefits jojoba can offer for us all. It hydrates and nourishes without leaving skin feeling oily or greasy. It’s also considered hypoallergenic which means allergic reactions or skin irritation is very rare with jojoba oil. Making it a kick ass ingredient for those with sensitive skin too.

All Hail Natural Ingredients

Jojoba is a real HERO for natural skincare.

Jojoba oil sits seriously strongly among a list of natural ingredients and essential oils we can't get enough of that help create products without any harsh chemicals or synthetics - oh and boost your wellbeing too!

And jojoba oil fits perfectly within this mantra.🙌
